Quility Partners with Local Nonprofit, BeLoved

Quility staff volunteer day three Quility leaders working on home build project

On September 29, 2022, four Quility agents and 13 corporate staff members came together for a day of community outreach. Tools in hand, they joined the staff and volunteers of the Asheville-based nonprofit, BeLoved, to help further the construction of BeLoved Village—a unique model for deeply affordable housing. This wonderful collaboration stemmed from Quility’s Giving Circle pilot program.

Giving Circles and Quility’s pilot program

Giving circles are a model of collective giving; an opportunity for groups of people to create community, raise awareness, pool donations and amplify positive impacts.

Less than a year old, Quility’s Giving Circle pilot program is already accomplishing great things. Tasked with selecting a single organization to partner with and support, the Circle decided on Beloved and immediately began raising funds and planning a day of service with one of BeLoved’s many programs, BeLoved Village.

BeLoved and BeLoved Village

BeLoved is a nonprofit and Asheville-based community dedicated to justice in all its many forms. From racial healing and cultural organizing to street medic outreach and food equity, BeLoved puts love into action and creates innovative solutions to some of the toughest problems faced by communities everywhere.

BeLoved Village is “redefining what it means to make homes attainable and communities whole.” Currently, 12 microhomes are being constructed on donated land and built chiefly with donated labor and materials. Upon completion, residents will be chosen from an applicant pool based on demonstrated need, 30% area median income (AMI)and other criteria.

Many hands make light work

With almost 20 Quility volunteers on deck, many tasks got checked off the list! Floor joists were put in place, gravel was spread and walking paths were created by clearing bamboo and debris. In preparation for Hurricane Ian, volunteers were also able to cover and protect building materials from the impending rain and wind.

While Quility staff certainly made an impact on BeLoved, BeLoved also made a lasting impact on Quility staff. The organization’s dedication to caring for the lives of those around them is inspirational and a reminder of how Quility is able to do to the same, albeit in different ways, every day.
